Olga Sabko's artistic residency in Mallorca.
Meeting with scientist Jorge Terrados at IMEDEA (The Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies) laboratory.
Artist's vision:
“Poseidonia Oceanica, a very interesting plant, which grows in the waters around the island, inspired me to make a parallel between the
time of growth of a plant, which is very slow, and the time it takes for craftsmen to make handmade objects of everyday life.
To make an accent on the fact that in nature, any development, any improvement, and a real creation takes a lot of time. It’s is exteremely important to speak about speed in a world, where we accelerate every day. During my visit to IMEDEA, Jorge Terrados, scientist, also unveiled many curious facts about this plant, which are at the same time very logical and very poetic. It seems like a plant has a lot of wisdom in it and it constantly grows and dies, and it happens on two edges of a rame at the same time. There’s no beginning and end, this plant is literally a never ending process. For me it’s very profound as an image.”
