problematic: Effectiveness of different types of artificial reefs
description: Reefs composed of natural rock and others composed of concrete were deployed in 2005 at a depth of around 45 m at coastal site in the Maltese Islands, while several vessels were scuttled during the period 1998 to date mainly serve as a diving attraction but which arguably may also function as artificial reefs. This project is aimed at establishing the effectiveness or otherwise of the various types of artificial reefs deployed in Maltese coastal waters as habitat for benthic biota and fishes. The project is supported by funds granted by the Environment and Resources Authority (Malta).
